Senior Platform Engineer
Do you want to take ownership of a platform undergoing real transformation — from on-premise infrastructure to a scalable, cloud-first environment? Are you someone who doesn’t just maintain systems, but redesigns them for the future? Then the role of Senior Platform Engineer at Abion could be your next step.
About Abion
Abion is a fast-growing and profitable platform-based IP and domain services provider on a journey to becoming a European IP powerhouse. With nearly 30 years of experience in digitalisation, we are an ICANN-accredited registrar offering a comprehensive suite of services across Domain Management, Trademark Management, and Web Security.
We operate in a dynamic, international environment with strong growth through both organic expansion and acquisitions. At Abion, we value ownership, initiative, and engineering excellence — and we give our teams the freedom to shape how we evolve.
About the role
As Senior Platform Engineer at Abion, you will take ownership of our infrastructure during a pivotal transition phase. Today, our environment is built on modern on-premise platforms (including Nutanix AHV), but our strategic direction is clear: we are moving towards a cloud-first operating model.
This is not a lift-and-shift exercise. You will play a key role in evaluating, designing and executing how our platforms evolve — balancing stability, cost, performance and long-term scalability.
You will work hands-on while also driving initiatives end-to-end, from assessing current workloads to implementing cloud-native or hybrid solutions. Over time, the centre of gravity for platform ownership will move from on-premise infrastructure to cloud environments — and you will help define what that looks like.
You will be part of the System Engineering team, collaborating with engineers, security, and senior stakeholders across the business.
Your responsibilities
Own and evolve core infrastructure platforms across on-premise and cloud environments
Contribute to and execute Abion’s cloud migration strategy
Assess existing systems and define appropriate migration paths
Build automation capabilities aligned with a cloud-first model
Standardise and optimise hosting environments and platform architecture
Lead infrastructure projects from planning through delivery
Support capacity planning, resilience and disaster recovery across hybrid environments
Act as 3rd line escalation and mentor junior engineers
Maintain high-quality documentation and engineering standards
About you
You are an experienced platform or infrastructure engineer who has owned environments — not just supported them. You are comfortable operating in environments undergoing change and are motivated by moving from traditional infrastructure towards modern, scalable platforms.
You combine technical depth with pragmatism. You understand that not everything should be re-architected overnight — but you know how to move things forward in a structured and commercially sensible way.
You are hands-on, accountable and delivery-focused. You communicate clearly with both engineers and business stakeholders and can translate technical decisions into impact.
